Today, Apple released several new products including the long-awaited iPad Pro 2020 models alongside the MacBook Air, Mac mini refresh with improved keyboards after quite a lot of rumors and leaks coming down the pipeline and no March event to speak of.
Apple released an updated iPad Pro, although it may not be as flashy as what we saw in 2018, there are some substantial improvements brought to the updated iPad Pro 2020 models over that previous generation.
New Features of The iPad Pro 2020 Models
So, the iPad Pro comes in two different sizes just as it did before. There’s the 11-inch model and the 12.9-inch model. From the front, they looked pretty much the same; not a lot really changed there. But really everything has to do with what is on the inside.
Processor And Storage
With the new iPad Pro 2020, Apple has updated the processor from the A12X Bionic to the new A12Z Bionic processor. So we’re going to see a big jump in performance from the last generation and the last generation iPad was no slouch at all. It was a fast machine, so we should see just another improvement on that.
Thanks to the eight-core GPU in the A12Z Bionic, Apple claims these iPad Pros also comes with enhanced tuned performance controllers and thermal architecture that will see these new iPad Pros having the highest performance ever in an iPad.
We also have an updated amount of storage. This is because the iPad Pro no longer starts at 64 gigs of storage. Apple confirms that the base model iPad pros 2020 will now start at 128 gigs to up to a terabyte for those that need it.
Apple has made improvements of the Wi-Fi; now adopting Wi-Fi 6 (802.11 ax) just like they did with the iPhone 11 line. So with an updated Wi-Fi, it’s going to e a lot faster and you should see better performance especially in congested networks if you have a Wi-Fi 6 router in your home.
New Pro Camera System
Probably the biggest thing that people probably will be talking about on the new iPads is going to be the new camera system. Apple did equip a second camera lens on the iPad Pro 2020 that Apple claims will help double the photo and video possibilities and enabling different perspectives and multi-camera use.
It still has the 12-megapixel wide lens for capturing stunning photos and high-quality 4k video. And now there is the 10-megapixel ultra-wide lens that has the capability of zooming out up to 2 times to capture a much wider angle. We saw that ultra-wide lens on the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro max and now we’re seeing it on the iPad pro.
You might be wondering why Apple included the third lens. Well, the updated camera is going to be very nice. It can now shoot 4k video at 24 frames per second. That is an improvement because before, it is limited to just 30 and 60 to 24 fps. That’s another new addition here as far as video recording goes.
Apple has also added a LiDAR scanner system. The light arts allows users to be able to get the 3d image of the room and enables capabilities never before possible on any mobile device according to Apple. This is going to take LiDAR to a whole new level which is another benefit of those cameras.
The New Magic Keyboard
Finally alongside the updated iPad Pro 2020 is the magic keyboard. We have heard a lot about this and it includes not only the hardware but the software as well. So iOS or iPad OS13.4 is going to be releasing on March 24th which brings full support for trackpad use.
Bluetooth trackpads can be connected. This means you can connect your Apple Magic Mouse, Magic Trackpad and all those can now connect wirelessly. This also comes with a new cursor, system-wide.
The new magic keyboard comes with a backlit feature, it has an independent displacement so that the display no longer has to rest on the bottom; it actually floats so the iPad can float around.
The backlit keyboard also comes with a trackpad integrated into the keyboard itself. So, the magic keyboard works not only with the new 11 and 12.9 iPad pros but the third generation as well.
With Apple taking orders from today, the iPad Pro will only be available next week. Users have two finishes to choose from — space grey and silver.
The 11-inch iPad Pro will start from $799 with base 128GB of storage while the 12.9-inch model will start from $999 with a base storage of 128GB. Cellular support can be added on the iPad Pros with an additional $150.
The iPad Pros can further be customized with higher specifications that comes with additional cost that can see the price go up to $1,449 for the 11-inch iPad and $1,649 for the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.
So, if you have an existing iPad pro and you want to take advantage of the new magic keyboard, for sure go ahead and do that.
So, that is it that is everything new with the new iPad Pro 2020.
